Methods

At The Urban Framer, we understand the individual needs of collectors, brokers, galleries and exhibitors. With years of experience working alongside these groups, we offer a unique approach to framing that compliments the artwork and prioritises the longevity and integrity of your art.

We understand in the Art-World, artworks are not only cherished but also bought, sold, and shipped between locations worldwide. That’s why we frame everything using archival methods. We utilise acid-free materials (Level 1 and Level 2 tapes, mount boards, and backing boards) to ensure your artwork is protected against deterioration. Our archival, time-honoured attachment methods use Methyl-cellulose or wheat paste (derived from plants & wheat starch) for float mounting, and the appropriate weight of hinging tape, is selected which makes a significant difference to how your art is preserved. We avoid gummed or self-adhesive tapes, allowing for easy removal of the artwork with distilled water whenever needed.

Why do we use different tapes for different artworks? It’s all about balance. We ensure the tape securely holds the artwork in place while also being thinner (weaker) than the paper of the artwork itself. This thoughtful design means that in the event that a frame is bumped, falls, or damaged in transit the tape will give way or tear, protecting your artwork from damage.

Additionally, going forward we are excited to offer our regular clients an upgrade to museum acrylic at a similar price as museum glass (for artworks under 120cm x 90cm). This upgrade enhances, the framing further and ensures the safety and security of valued pieces during buying, selling, and shipping.

When you choose The Urban Framer, you’re not only selecting a bespoke framing service; you’re investing in the preservation and protection of your art. Let us help you ensure that your cherished works remain safe and beautiful for years to come.
